To create concepts, and then a whole world.
A hotbed for conspiracy, therefore, an hero is born.
A piece of magnificent poen, and an elegant painting.
What is so called imagination ---- perhaps just the somniloquy in the midnight.

How much bravery does it cost to create concepts? When a movie is telling a story in its own ethics and words, which is completely different from what we are customised using, then it faces the question about the conviction of the world it builds and the attractiveness of the story.
It seems nice, in the whole structure, the story, the circumstance and the final . For 《His Dark Materials》 trilogy, this is a good beginning. The only blemish is that without reading the novel or understanding those few concepts built up in, the movie is a little bit comfusing and hard to get touch.
The Parallel Universes is the background of this story. It takes place in one of the Parallel Universes. Human beings look the same with us. But there is a guardian beast for each one of them. The guardian beast is born with the baby and die when that man die. It is the twin of spirit and soul of the person. This is my favourite point in the movie.
Other than the Parallel Universes, there comes the Dark Material. No matter which Parallel Universe are you in, we are said to be connected by dust. The Golden Compass is made from Dark Material, and it can discover all the truth. The leading charater Clara, acted by Dakota Blue Richards, is a 12-year-old orphan. The reason that she is the head of this story is because of her bravery, curiosity, struggling against hegemony, imagination and starving in truth. More importantly, she is the only one who can understand what the Golden Compass is telling.
Souls leave the bodies. This is a fantistic idea to show the mentation of charaters. The movie does so by simply let the people talk to their guardian beasts. This is a flesh display. This movie is successful to make us be more interested in the book, especially for people who never touch the book like me.
In this point, the display is positive. However, as a movie, I am sorry to think it as a failure. It is because that it did not perfectly transfer the words into pictures. For the first touch with the movie, some concepts are still out of my understanding. So I think of reading the novel then. I am looking forward to the following parts of the story. This movie is really good in pictures and musics, and it builds a really interesting world.
This is a world for children. People are talking with other creatures, like gaint bears. People are chatting with their souls, which sounds like that kind of supernatural power. In this movie, all those from fair tales and rhapsodies come true.
Grown up with fair tales, all of us have dreamed to be a hero like Clara. In this movie, the little super child save the whole world! We cannot help admiring the lively fancy in child literatures of Englishmen. At the same time, we cannot help admiring the magic power of Hollywood to turn imagination into an epic movie.
In my opinion, Nicole Kidman was acting as her usual and hard to find glitters, and Daniel Craig was beat by his elegant guardian beast, the white leopard, but Eva Green was acting so great that astonished me. The super star in this movie must be Dakota Blue Richards. Although she is so young, she was so successful in performing the character.
As the beginning, this film is said to be competent for a rhapsody of Genesis but still far from excellent.
I am interested in this work, and looking forward for the second chapter 《The Subtle Knife》and the third on,《The Amber Spyglass》. The fabulous stages and extensive story makes me believe that the following will be better.
